Often chosen from among the bride’s closest friends, sisters, or cherished companions, bridesmaids hold a special place in the celebration. More than just guests, they are part of the emotional and visual heart of the wedding.

The bride usually selects her bridesmaids with great care, wanting her favorite women to stand by her side on this unforgettable day. In return, the bridesmaids take their role seriously, contributing to the atmosphere, offering support, and of course—making a fashion statement.

Typically, the color, style, and fabric of the bridesmaids’ dresses are chosen in harmony with the wedding theme. Whether it's a romantic garden ceremony or a glamorous evening affair, their coordinated looks add beauty and elegance to the event, perfectly complementing the bride’s vision.

A celebration of Algerian heritage through fashion

In Algerian traditions, one of the most anticipated and visually stunning moments of a wedding is the "Tesdira"—a grand showcase where the bride presents a collection of traditional outfits from different regions of Algeria. More than just a fashion display, the Tesdira is a celebration of cultural identity, heritage, and feminine elegance.

The bride carefully selects the dresses that will be part of her Tesdira, curating a lineup that may include iconic garments such as the Chedda of Tlemcen, the Karako and Bedroun from Algiers, the colorful Jebba Kabyle, Jebba Annabi, the elegant Fergani from Constantine, the delicate Peignoir Staïfi, the vibrant Melhfa Chaoui, and the radiant Naili dress, among others.

The bride often chooses close female relatives or friends to join her during the Tesdira, dressing in similar styles to enhance the visual harmony of the moment.

One important note in Algerian culture: the color white is strictly reserved for the bride. Neither bridesmaids nor guests are expected to wear white, as it symbolizes purity and uniqueness, belonging solely to the bride on her special day

Elegance and respect: The groom’s attire in Algerian weddings

While the bride often dazzles with her elaborate Tesdira, the Algerian groom also carries his own sense of tradition and style. On his wedding day, the groom typically opts for a classic suit, often enhanced with a touch of heritage through the addition of a traditional Bernos—a long, flowing cloak that symbolizes pride and masculinity.

The groom’s friends and male relatives are also expected to dress with elegance and respect. A well-fitted classic suit, or a combination of a clean, tailored shirt with formal trousers, is considered appropriate and stylish. Loafers or simple leather dress shoes complete the look, striking a balance between sophistication and cultural respect.

 It’s important to note that certain styles are discouraged during such formal occasions. Shorts, overly tight trousers, or flashy, overly casual outfits may be seen as disrespectful—especially toward the groom’s family and the overall decorum of the event. In Algerian weddings, dressing well is  a sign of appreciation, honor, and shared celebration.
